SPIRITUALITY AND THERAPY

In the ancient indigenous traditions of the world, healing and spirituality have always gone hand in hand. In fact, the human being cannot be considered separately from his or her spirituality, for it is our spirit that animates the human body. The existence of the soul is a consensus in all traditions of the world. It is only in the modern, scientific and industrial age that the existence of the soul is being questioned. This is the blink of an eye in the 19 million years that we have evolved on this planet. It is also an aberration; the empirical evidence for the existence of the soul is so abundant that it is futile to question it. On the other hand, for those who hold this belief, I really don’t want to live in their mindset. In this aberration, there is the freedom to live as one wishes because one thinks that everything ends with death. Thus, ethics, morality, and responsibility that flow from our thoughts, words, and actions no longer matter. It is about the behaviour of people and their influence on those around them. In the absence of responsibility, sound morals and fair ethics, the worst behaviours, whatever they may be, are justified.

The worst part of all this is the suffering that those with these attitudes will experience in the future. Everything, absolutely everything we think, say, and do is recorded in our conscience and then multiplies exponentially as time passes. The more time passes, the more karma increases. So, in this life or in a future life, these people will have to reap what they have sown, for better or for worse. It is inevitable.

Thus, we should not think that the sicknesses we experience are undeserved. We do not remember all our actions and words from one life to the next unless we have achieved enlightenment and realization [1]. According to the Tibetans, we plant about sixty karmic seeds per minute.

Therefore, spirituality must accompany every act of healing. Whether in the enlightened thinking of the therapist, with or without mentioning it to the patient, whether through the suggested gestures of correction, whether through the patient’s prayers, it can take a variety of forms. But it must be present in one way or another.

That is why one of my elders used to say, “When you treat someone, they should leave you a better person than when they arrived; otherwise you are not doing your job properly.”  Indeed, our development and integrity are an integral part of our health. Whether it is our relationships with others, the accuracy of our words, or the moral and ethical level of our behaviour, all have an impact on our state of health.

This is proof that the current medical industry is really very sick. The fact that the world’s largest corporations allow themselves to limit access to natural methods in order to make more profits is criminal. This attitude explains why only chemical products and invasive procedures are accepted in the hospitals of the Western world. In short, I will not put the current medical industry on trial here because it’s just too horrible. As Brian Clement, director of the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida, said, “It’s the Evil Empire.”

These forces that have influenced our world for millennia must change. We must combine natural methods of healing in synergy with modern methods, which would be less expensive and more effective. We need to recognize that there is not only a body, but also a heart and a soul that needs care. They have a greater impact on our health and lives than anything else. Because the soul and spirit are our true identities, they are what truly defines us for all of eternity.
