HOW IS SUCCESS MEASURED? WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE?

In this day and age, when the values and the spiritual, moral and ethical standards of the general population — and especially of the elites in Western and Atlanticist countries — have deteriorated appallingly, it is difficult to gauge how one ought to behave and live a wholesome life.

The messages propagated by the media and the state education system are a source of confusion. The tendency to separate secular life from religious life, for example, results in there being no guidelines offered other than those established by government regulations and laws.

Yet, amongst many citizens, it is widely accepted to circumvent the demands of government bureaucracy. The level of stupidity and injustice often encountered in educational and governmental institutions frequently justifies these little white lies. It has become a habit.

The disparity in the protection afforded to the wealthy within the justice systems established by these governments gives the impression that money is the measure of success, since it affords protection and freedom that others do not have. We must not forget that money is a random, arbitrary and illusory value — a symbol to which humans have collectively agreed to grant power, but which has no inherent value. Yet it is an economic mechanism that currently governs most interactions between individuals and nations.

As there are no laws that apply to the wealthiest — as recent US actions have demonstrated even at the international level — there are currently no truly just values to guide human behaviour. Coupled with an almost total absence of moral, ethical and spiritual values in today’s societal environment, this confusion is systematic. With nothing to fill this void, people are gradually becoming robots devoid of discernment.

An example of this erosion of basic values: certain warnings have become the norm in most institutions. Telephone answering machines and notices at public counters warn that abusive and angry behaviour will not be tolerated. This has become necessary because there are no longer any truly logical, rational, moral, ethical or spiritual parameters governing behaviour in Western societies and in nations that have adopted this way of life. Consequently, those who deal with the public are facing increasing problems with disrespect of all kinds.

Following this description of our reality, it is easy to see that we live in great confusion regarding the values that measure an individual’s success in our current societies. How, in such a context, can one measure one’s own success? What validates, supports and encourages human beings to become good, kind, amiable, helpful, and to possess other qualities that make living together pleasant?

If the situation has not deteriorated further than it might have in such a societal context, it is because, in fact, we carry the truth within us. Most human beings instinctively know what is right and good. It is certain that in our indigenous communities of the past, and even in rural farming communities, these qualities of mutual aid, support, collaboration, and respect for customs and traditions were far more prevalent, and that life was much more pleasant and sustainable. The simplicity of a life lived in harmony with nature naturally harmonises relationships. But today, what can we do?

Your life is a success to the extent that you help others. If your activities and interactions with others help them, and contribute to their lives, fulfilment, health and happiness, then you are a success. We are nothing without others. In fact, everything — absolutely everything — in the universe is connected. Our thoughts, words and actions have ramifications, vibrational waves that reach as far as the sun and beyond. We must be aware of this. For our world has forgotten this and is sinking into ever more terrible destruction and suffering.

Each of us is a crystal of peace, love and joy. Each of us can influence the entire biosphere, even if we do not see the effects. And above all, each of our thoughts, words and actions contributes to what we will experience tomorrow. It is better to sow seeds of mutual aid and kindness, of compassion and equanimity, of joy and peace, so that our descendants may find a land where the water is good to drink and the air is good to breathe. It is better to create the conditions for a world where all beings live in harmony. For it is in such an environment that our development and evolution progress most.

Our destiny is to become angels of goodness and light, capable of helping thousands of beings across many worlds, all at the same time. There is a sure path that leads to this destiny. To this end, your success is measured by the good and the kindness you sow, day by day, moment by moment.

Peace, joy, light and love within you and around you. I love you.
